Free on Marketplace

I thought I’d throw together a quick selection of things you can find free on the SL marketplace. It started when I came across the What Next mannequin, then I just tried searches like “free rug” and I was quickly able to put together some nice items. The incense burner is 1 Linden, everything else is Zero Linden.
The Al’Ol Woven Chair Set consists of two chairs (one shown here) plus the basketweave table with magazines: Sold by Albertt Olkhovsky
From Nordari, sold by Jordan Giant, I got the color.me | room divider and a set of ruggies (one of them shown here).
Paperdoll Mannequin is from {what next}
Tiny Brass Incense Burner (on the floor) is from *Zinnias*
Potted Plant Montbretia is from CJ Creations
Finally, the RE Cherry Blossom painting is by RE Blueprint Designs
The building is a Designer Prims gift in a past hunt.

Last look at the West Lake House

Last look at West Lake House

I realised that I never finished my tour of the L2 Studios West Lake House. This is a cosy nook I created with: sofa, floor chair and low silver table from Melino Style; Dramatic flower arrangement and wide bowl with flower/ water (on the low table) from Patron; Trunk from Zinnias; artwork from The Gallery Gift Shop (not now available there, but there is a new set of pictures to snap up); Round floor cushion from Palais; Dinner and dessert place by Boathouse; rug by POST; (outside) rabbit from HPMD in pink basket from Y’s House, and tin vase of cosmos flowers from Frog’s Garden.

West Lake House: gallery room

I tried to keep this area less cluttered than usual (for me) to show off the fine rugs and artwork. Cowry shell sculpture and pot of tulips by Hanaya; Rug (floor) by POST; Rug (wall) and cabinet by Melino Style; Dried flower arrangement and circular sofa by Palais; Indoor fireplace by -JoHaDeZ- (with several nice poses in it, plus texture change); Art on the left wall by Gabrielle Swindlehurst; Brass ornament/pot by Urbanized.

Beachside

Emm's "how lucky we are" house
I’m using emm’s “how lucky we are” house, which is raising money for her cat’s vets bill “I’ve listed this build for L$125 for the rest of June in order to help Sir Gary’s fund” she says: her shop is here. I modded it very slightly, tinting a couple of the inside walls and the panel above the door, and making the back wall downstairs semi-transparent. It is a nice open structure, perfect for a beachside location. Palms are by Tobias Novi and Heart.
Emm's "how lucky we are" house
Downstairs: Suzani end table by Melino Style; Rugs by Zigana; Food by Poche; Plant by Cheeky Pea; NYC66 Couch, chair and dining set by Trompe Loeil at collabor88; Hydrangea picture by Yoyo Quartz.

Beach set (table and chairs with lamp) by Bag Lady Designs at House and Garden Designer Warehouse; Jewel set items – rug, lamps, chairs, mirror by LISP (in their bargain section); Bug wall plates by LISP at the Fairy Tales event. Goya green curtain (climbing plant) by Frog’s Garden; Forest Love cabinet by Concrete Flowers.

Life in the woods

Caravan in the woods
I did quite a bit of the Cookie Jar Hunt, and there’s a few items from that in this post. However, what I’m mainly featuring is a not-free item that I just fell in love with along the way: The Gypsy Wagon by United InshCon. The wagon on its own is 56 prims and it’s not mesh, but it is very cute and also a really good size: small enough to be cosy, but not so small you have difficulty seeing inside it when you walk in. I bought the furnished version, which includes the green patchwork chairs, lamps, table and curtains (plus a bench, sink unit, clothes rack and extra lamp that I didn’t use). There is also a door curtain that tinkles when you walk through it: I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. I made it a little boho nest of colourful things.
Above: Forgotten dream (guitar in a box); Lovers picture; Flower teapot and flower shelves; Rugs: by Zigana *** Birdy pictures, house plant and box of books: all in Laura’s Bench set from Cheeky Pea *** Teapot lamp, striped teapot and yellow piano: by LISP *** Sakura (pink cherry blossom) teapot and plate: by harima-ya *** Asparagus fern: by Herb Abrahams *** Enamel bowl: by Luxus *** Basket: by Dreamscapes *** Love Wall Decoration: by The Family Jewels (for The Cookie Jar Anniversary Hunt) *** rubber duck: by Theosophy *** Chuvash Stool and (just in shot at the front) suzani end table: by Melino Style
Caravan in the woods
You can see there’s a nice ledge above the curtained nook where you can store things. The LISP kitchen set just fitted in snugly. The window ledges give you lots of room for knick-knacks, including my collections of teapots and photo frames. In the second picture you can see the fruit tart from Nukunuku which was probably my favourite Cookie Hunt item.
Upper picture: Luggage (trunk and valise): by POST *** Mermaids and Seadogs kitchen unit (including fridge, receipe book, scales, dishes, saucepan) and cushions next to luggage: by LISP *** Coat hangar blue: Zigana (free) *** Pots and pans (hanging on hangar) and “Windows in the West” picture: by Marmalade Jam *** RED Beega (leafy plant): by LUXus *** Yellow kettle: by Kloka *** “Cookies” Jar and flower-patterned jar: Grumble (for The Cookie Jar Anniversary Hunt) *** Crock of kitchen tools; dish rack; cannisters: Funky Junk *** Laundry basket: by Bitter Vanilla
Lower picture Nevada Rustic Chest; Zinnia’s *** Horse Statue: Shabby Shack *** BoHo Picture Frame: BoatHouse *** Tray with cutlery (on the chest) and fruit tart (gives edible tart on click) (on the table): *NP* Nukunuku Pocket (for The Cookie Jar Anniversary Hunt) *** Sunshine ladybird vase; vintage tin candle; Christmas card; Floor cushions: LISP *** Memories Handmade Book: Lark *** little vase of cherry blossom: Poche *** Crystal Ambience Lamp - EarthDwellings (part of Earthstones). In this picture you can also see the Vintage Tennis Picture by what next
Outside the gypsy wagon
I was trying to get a better shot than that last one of the outside, but at that point SL was a complete lagfest. Still, I think you can see how cute the wagon is.
Top picture: Colander and notebook (from a gatcha): Picnic *** Lemons and cutting board: Funky JUnk *** Canvas chair (flowers): Milcaholic *** Yardy lawn chair: Turnip’s *** Herb pile: Vent du Sud *** Incense burner: Kubric Flux (free on Marketplace)
Lower picture: Spice bags and jars from Kismet on the Silk Road Hunt (When you get to the main landing point, wait til everything rezzes as there is a good hint there. It was very laggy for me and I set off before the hint rezzed and wasted ages). *** Fence and gate by Boathouse (for The Cookie Jar Anniversary Hunt). The elf plaque on the back of the wagon is the rather spooky Cookie Hunt gift from United Inshan (the makers of the wagon). My horse is by AKK.

Tiny Place

The tiny house
L&K prefabs have just brought out Tiny Place house (it was 55 Linden at the weekend – in fact it was still 55 Linden when I bought it earlier today.) I’ll take a couple of posts to blog it. In the picture above you see it: the cherry trees, cherry blossom ground cover and mossy rocks are from Forest Floor (and are season change). The grassy cover and white rocks are from Heart, and the butterflies from FIN.
On the porch there is the current worn chair on sale at Atelier Kreslo, the Baignoire table by Cheeky Pea (at the current collabor8) with some candles in bottles by LISP (part of an autumn set), spring planters by What Next, and some further plants by Ibizarre on the steps.
Washing up in the tiny house
Here you see me washing up (using poses built into a wearable sponge and plate, which I got with a kitchen unit from Bitter Vanilla). There is a sale on at the Creators Pavilion until 15 April, and this sink (part of a kitchen set, 89 Linden in the sale) is from CoCo. The picture (Check Shirt) is by Lindini2 and is free in Atelier Kreslo, which is where I also bought the cup of coffee. This pictures gives you a better view of one of the What Next spring planters. The other things are: Jug of branches: La’licious; Wire basket of eggs: KOPI; Plate rack and dishes (in sink): Funky Junk (in Pasadena set); Plunger: MMG’s; Tray table: Zinnias; Expresso maker: TSG; Kitchen utensils and laundry basket: Bitter Vanilla; Morrocan lemons and bell: LISP (in Jewel set); Hodepodge carpet: LISP; Cabinet: Melino Style. I’ll blog the other side of the house soon!

Seraphim HQ

Goods from Seraphim HQ
Seraphim HQ (from the people that bring you the Seraphim blog) has been restocked with generous free gifts, including some nice home and garden items. You need to join the inworld group (free) to get at the booty, then just go round the walls clicking the vendors.
Above is one of my favourite things, the falling rose petal tree from Michigan’s Shack. It was made for Valentine’s day, but it will blend easily with the cherry blossom that is starting to break out all over the grid. With it you see the Cheeky Pea rocking chair and ADD Andel potted bush.
Goods from Seraphim HQ
Above is my other favourite item, the rug from Melino Style. It is a classic pattern, and has poses in it. I’m demonstrating the Khargo bean bag (which tones nicely with the rug) and the L’aize Dayz shabby bench also fits attractively with the blue/white colour palette. The Shabby Chair from Allure includes numerous poses in the chair.
Goods from Seraphim HQ
The whole set above is from EverHOME, including the globe ceiling light, rug, table with ornament and the seating. A nice clean-lined modern group.

Finally, the settle and deco is from Fuzzy Bee.

Forever Yours

Forever Yours hunt items
Work has been mad over the last couple of weeks, so not so much time for blogging. However, I saw these 3 hunt sets in a new-to-me shop Forever Yours. If “adult poses” are your thing, the two love rugs are attractively done (and also contain tamer cuddle poses). Seen above is the Glamor Hunt prize (10 Linden for love rug, chaise (the chaise just has one normal sitting pose in it) and fireplace) and the Be Loved Hunt prize (free): a table for two with chairs, flowers and candles, plus some valentine bags and some balloons. This second hunt is only on for a few more days, and there is a hint giver and examples of the items you are hunting for, by the shop entrance. As I was in a hurry I just hauled the items out and snapped them, so no styling has taken place (the banner, park bench and trees are nothing to do with the prizes!).

Below you see the (free) prize in the Love me or not hunt: the Hideaway. This is about 60 prims in total, all linked together, including a chair and a “love rug”. I wasn’t so keen on some of the poses in the chair – seemed to be “violence against women” (or against men, if you swapped pose balls). The fur rug is pretty, though. The Forever Yours shop is fairly small, so finding the items is not a huge trial.

New Year’s home

New Year's home
I’ve taken rather a long time to decorate and blog this, so please excuse the lingering seasonal decorations. However, this home is easing me gently out of holiday times, and into a crisper, pastel-shaded new year. One of the key starting points was obviously the house: I do like the layouts in Interior Addiction homes. They combine a feeling of space with attractively separated living areas, so you don’t feel cramped, but you also don’t feel like you are marooned in a giant waiting room.

In this case, some white open partitioning makes three areas at ground level, with one manageably-sized upper room. I ran out of prims when I came to the the little side room at the back (you can just glimpse it on the right in the picture above), and I will probably do a separate post just concentrating on that and the back porch, when I’ve freed up a few more prims ;-)

I go through the rooms in more detail below. I think the only things you can see here and not in other pictures are the sheer net curtains on a curtain rod, at the back windows (from Oyakin) and the sink unit in the side room (by aju)
New Year's home
I used the Heart landscaped snow globe, but added the boat arbour to give a hint of summer to come. The house is modify, so you can remove the Xmas wreath and garlands.

New Year's home
Another key piece for this home was the Nieve Armoire from What Next. I bought it because I liked the poses, and I wanted to use it in this fashion blog post, but when I saw the whole Nieve collection I couldn’t resist buying more of it. Also scattered round the house are items from the “By the Sea” set by Dreamscapes, and between them they decided the main colour tones for the furnishings.

New Year's home (bathroom)
I’d intended to put a dining room in this upstairs room, but then I found this bathtub in Cleo and I wanted to use it. Both this and the downstairs bird pictures from aju were specials and may not be available now, unfortunately. The tori shelf has been in a lucky board.

New Year's home
The sofa from The Loft is Mesh and very stylish: however with my viewer I could only get it to resolve properly when I was close up to it, unfortunately, which is why I have shot over the back of it (however, this DOES show up the wonderful cloth textures).
Frezza Sofa in teal: The Loft
Wondrous Strange-Turquoise Wreath (decal): siss-boom

Christmas home

Composite of Christmas home
I like making greenhouses into homes, and when I saw this one from Hanaya it seemed ideal for a Christmas refuge: even better it only costs 10 Linden. Also great value is the winter bundle from Kidd Creations – a huge amount of landscaping stuff, including various things not shown here (lights, paths, a pergola) and even a copy of the snow texture, so you can texture other items to match his snow drifts (which is what I did here).
Indoors, I used the Xmas group gifts from Y’s House (and their new chair), LISP and Art Dummy items from the collabor88 event, and some of the advent gifts from Swayland. The greenhouse comes with a stove, but I put in the white one from LISP instead and also another stove from Kurotsubaki to keep my cat Stone cosy and warm.

Under the tree

Under the tree

I’m excited to be doing my first post for Home on the Grid! In fact I got so excited that I forgot to check whether the central focus of this picture, the tree from TSG, was still available. I like the texture of the branches, and the fact that it isn’t overdecorated. It turns out that although TSG (Tesh Gardens) don’t seem to have this exact tree, they DO have a very similar one with golden baubles instead of candles (and fewer prims, which is a bonus).
Under the tree: keyI’d recommend the advent hunt on Swayland: you have to go round the sim and find the boxes numbered 1-25. Each one gives a notecard with a code. Once you’ve got the codes, you go to the central Advent Tree, click the present with the right date on it, and type in the code for that date. You can only claim the present for “today”, so actually at this point finding boxes 1-7 is simply a frustration. Also you have to remember that the date changes at midnight GMT i.e. 8 hours ahead of SL time, so at 4.05pm 7th December SL time you are already on to the 8th December present and can’t get the 7th any more. Despite the fact that GMT is my real time zone, I got caught out on the first day. There are gifts from Sway’s, Nonino and others with shops on the sim.
